How long can I make my profile? Good question. If a profile is more than five hundred kilobytes in size (or two hundred and fifty times the standard AIM profile) we are forced to crop it to prevent abuse of this service. You will be notified if we do this. Also, individual entries in the guestbook can only be one thousand characters each (and the fifty most recent guestbook entries are kept). The visitor log will only store your five hundred most recent visitors. In addition, note that due to constraints in most web browsers, individual subpages can only be sixty-four kilobytes in length (or roughly fifty pages.) If a subpage is extremely long, we recommend breaking it into multiple parts. Back to top

How do I make a journal? We've added a feature to help you make a journal in your profile. The journal is actually part of a subpage, so you can have as many journals as you want. Once you're logged in, scroll down to the subpage section. Above each subpage, you will see a link marked "(add journal entry)". Simply click it to get started! Once you've written your journal entry, you'll see that it was added to the beginning of the subpage. Submit the changes, and your journal entry is saved. Please be aware that length constraints apply (a constraint of your web browser, not our software). Once your journal is about 50 pages long, you should start a new one (in a new subpage, that is) to avoid running into this constraint. Back to top

How do I use the special effects? You may use special effects on your main page body or subpage body. Using the special effects is easy! You simply type a special code where you want the effect to occur. For example, if you wanted to have some rainbow colored text, you would simply insert [rainbow:This is rainbow colored]. All special effect codes are enclosed in brackets with the name of the effect, a colon, and the text you want changed. If you want to see a list of the available effects, click here. Please note that if your special effect is too lengthy, the end portion of your message may remain unchanged. This is done to keep the page load time reasonable for your visitors. If you wish to have longer special effects, simply use two special effects codes back-to-back. Back to top

Help! I can't get the code to put in my AIM profile to work! First of all be sure to copy and paste the code EXACTLY as it is into your profile. If you don't copy it exactly, it won't open inside the profile window. If you lost the code to put in your profile, log in and then click here to get the code to add to your page. Also, make sure you are using the most recent version of AIM... older versions than 4.7 are incompatable with the buddy4u technology. Back to top

What is this "Easy Login" thing? It the quickest way to edit your profile, exclusively available at Buddy4u! If the screenname you entered on the buddy4u website matches your own screenname, then when you view your own profile from within AIM, you'll see a link to edit your profile. (Don't worry, we still ask for your password.) Editing your profile has never been quicker!
Your visitors will NOT see the easy login message unless there is an error in your code. If so, double check that you copied the code into your profile correctly. (Get help with the code if you're still having difficulties.)
If you cannot see the Easy Login message when you view your profile, make sure the screen name registered with us (you can change it in the admin page) is exactly the same as your AIM screen name. Capitalization does not matter, but spaces do. Back to top

How do I use subpages and links? To create a new subpage, click on "Add Subpage". Type the title and content of your subpage in the box immediately below that link. Repeat this process to add as many subpages as you desire. To edit an existing subpage, click on the title of the page you want to edit in the "Edit Subpage Order" box. The content of the page will appear in the editing boxes. Edit the page in this box and the changes will automatically be stored. You may also reorder your subpages using the Move Up and Move Down links. Your changes will NOT be saved to your AIM profile until you click the submit changes button on the bottom of the page.
The process is similar for links, except you edit the title and URL instead. (A URL is a website address--usually starts with http://) Back to top

Why don't some HTML commands work? Unfortunately, AIM only supports the most basic HTML commands. such as b(old), i(talic), u(nderline), hr (line rule), and a few others (such as links). Things such as images, movies, tables and frames are not supported. Unfortunately, AOL blocked the use of our advanced code, so currently you cannot use all the HTML commands you want. We're working on a work around and will let you know as soon as we find it! Back to top

Why do we use cookies?
It's simple--we need to keep track of who you are... it would suck if you just finished editing your profile and instead of saving it to your page, it saved it to someone elses! That being said, we're working on a way to allow you to use this site without cookies. Nevertheless, we still recommend you enable them to take full advantage of buddy4u. Back to top

Why isn’t my visitor log updated when someone views my profile? Do you see a message like “No visitors have browsed your page using AIM yet” in your visitor log, but you know that someone else has viewed your profile? Unfortunately, we are only able to update the visitor log when someone views your profile inside of AIM by clicking on a link inside of your “Get Info” screen. This is due to a limitation of AOL Instant Messenger and we are unable to find the name of the person who visited your profile when they view it in a web-browser. If your profile opens in Internet Explorer or does not record names, your code may be incorrect and should be installed again. Back to top

Why doesn't Buddy4u work in AIM Triton? Unfortunately, AOL has chosen not to fully support advanced buddy profiles in the new AIM beta. While we are looking for a work around, you can use the website code to link to your Buddy4u profile in a new window. Back to top

How do I delete guestbook entries? It's easy--simply log in to your account and click on "Edit Guestbook." You'll then be able to view your guestbook and choose which guestbook entries to delete. Back to top

Someone wrote something bad in my guestbook. The first thing to realize is that the Internet is a very anonymous place and when people feel like they can get away with it, they say things they shouldn't. We recommend that you simply delete the guestbook entry and move on. Think "sticks and stones may break my bones but words never hurt." However, if you feel the need to investigate the entry further, the IP address and exact time of signing is available. Log in to Buddy4u and click "Edit Guestbook." Below each entry is the IP address, if available, of the person who signed your guestbook. This is all the information we can possibly give you--bring this information to your system administrator for assistance on how to use it. Back to top

My Buddy4u profile won't load after upgrading AIM! If you cannot get your Buddy profile to load from your profile, please reinstall the code. AOL has changed AIM and a new code may be needed.
Please note that Buddy4u does not fully support AIM Triton and we do not recommend upgrading to it until AOL releases the final version. Back to top
